Wadi Surgicals Private Limited, a surgical manufacturing unit at the MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam, has said that operations at the plant has been shut down for the past four days due to the unavailability of LPG supply from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
The company manufactures nitrile examination gloves, an essential medical consumable used extensively across hospitals and laboratories. The production of these gloves requires a continuous, stable LPG supply to sustain the manufacturing process.
“We use around 4,500 kg of LPG per day. Despite being part of the healthcare supply chain and producing a critical medical device, LPG supplies to our plant have not been provided for the last four days, resulting in a complete halt in production,” K. Anindith Reddy, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Wadi Surgicals, said here in a statement on Thursday.
“This disruption risks affecting the availability of gloves to hospitals and healthcare providers who rely on these products to maintain hygiene standards and protect both patients and medical professionals,” he said.
“We have formally reached out to the concerned authorities and HPCL, requesting urgent restoration of LPG supply and priority allocation, considering the essential nature of the product being manufactured. We sincerely urge the government to ensure the immediate supply of LPG to essential sectors like ours, so that production can resume and the supply of this critical healthcare consumable to hospitals across the country remains uninterrupted,” he said.
