Renisha Chainani, head of research at Augmont, writes – Gold, silver struggle amid Fed, oil uncertainty
· Safe Heaven Dynamics – Gold and silver remain under pressure, hovering below key psychological levels of $5000 and $80 respectively, as investors stay cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve decision. Volatility in oil prices is complicating the inflation outlook, keeping real yields elevated and limiting upside in precious metals despite ongoing geopolitical risks.
· Geopolitical Developments – Escalation in the US–Israel–Iran conflict, including strikes on energy infrastructure and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, has intensified supply concerns in oil markets. While such tensions typically support safe-haven demand, the inflationary impact of rising energy prices is delaying expectations of monetary easing, creating mixed signals for gold and silver.
· Monetary Policy stance – The Fed is expected to maintain a pause, reinforcing a “wait-and-watch” approach amid sticky inflation and a softening labor market. Similar policy stances by ECB, BoE, and BoJ indicate a synchronized global pause. The key trigger for metals will be forward guidance—any dovish tilt could revive bullish momentum.
Technical Triggers
· Gold briefly broke the key $5000 (₹157,000) support and short-term bias remain bearish with strong support seen around $4850 (₹150,000).
· Silver has also slipped below $80 (₹255,000) and renewed break below $77 (₹247,000) could trigger further profit-booking, dragging prices towards $70 (~₹230,000) in the near term.

Gems & jewellery sector outlook for Gudi Padwa remains neutral: Kama Jewelry MD
Gold-buying has been the favourite investment hobby of Indians, and auspicious occasions like Gudi Padwa attract a large number of buyers, driven by sentimental value. This year, domestic jewellery sales during Gudi Padwa are likely to remain neutral, irrespective of the downtrend in gold prices after a long time. While some buyers from the investors’ fraternity may leverage this opportunity, the consumer class will be mindful, given the current geopolitical scenario. Demand for affordable light-weight gold jewellery in 9k, 14k, and 18k is likely to see traction from young buyers who prefer practicality and the prestige of wearing a precious metal. Stock Market Live Updates: Bitcoin holds above $74,000 as markets await Fed decision: Pi42 CEO
Bitcoin’s ability to hold above the $74,000 level even as markets turn cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve decision reflects a market that remains structurally supported. After briefly pushing toward the $76,000 zone, price action has turned range-bound, indicating a pause rather than a reversal. Recent movements suggest that gains are being tested, with some profit booking and short-term weakness emerging ahead of the Fed outcome.
At the same time, the broader trend shows that Bitcoin continues to defend key levels, even as doubts around a sustained breakout persist. What is notable is that accumulation trends remain intact, helping the market absorb selling pressure and stabilise within the current range. The $74,000 level is now acting as an important support zone, and holding above it keeps the possibility of a breakout open. A sustained move beyond recent highs could signal renewed momentum, while failure to hold current levels may extend the consolidation phase in the near term. – Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42.

Stock Market Live Updates: Giottus CEO sees Bitcoin range-bound around $74,200 ahead of Fed outcome
Bitcoin traded around $74,200 on March 18, after briefly testing levels above $75,000 in the previous session. The intraday range narrowed to roughly $73,500–$75,400, suggesting the market is stabilising but still lacking strong follow-through. From a trading perspective, immediate support lies near $73,500, which matches the recent low. Below that, the $72,000–$72,500 zone remains important, followed by the key psychological level at $70,000. On the upside, $75,400–$76,000 continues to act as resistance. Bitcoin needs to hold above this range to signal stronger momentum. On-chain data remains supportive, with wallets holding 10 to 10,000 BTC now controlling around 68 per cent of supply, indicating continued accumulation.
Bitcoin dominance is steady near 58–59 per cent, showing capital remains concentrated in BTC. Institutional demand is still positive but slowing, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs recording about $30 million in net inflows on March 17, following stronger inflows earlier in the week. Altcoins are moving in line with Bitcoin.
Macro remains the key driver, with the US Federal Reserve’s March 17–18 meeting in focus. While rates are expected to remain unchanged, guidance on inflation and future rate cuts will be critical. Elevated oil prices and inflation risks continue to keep liquidity tight, limiting upside in risk assets.
Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com, advises that Bitcoin remains range-bound and sensitive to macro signals. Investors should stay disciplined, avoid overtrading and wait for a clear breakout above resistance before increasing exposure.
