Bharat Biotech Co-Founders Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella launch a logo to mark the 30th anniversary of the company

What started as a small biotech start-up in Shamirpet’s Genome Valley 30 years ago has now emerged as a major global vaccine company. Krishna Ella, the Co-Founder of Bharat Biotech, incidentally also helped groom the valley, which now houses some marquee biotech companies worldwide.

With over 220 patents and a workforce of over 4,000 employees, the Hyderabad-based company delivered over 9 billion vaccine doses to over 125 countries in 30 years.

The company has celebrated “30 years of scientific innovation, public health impact, and its continued commitment to protecting lives in India and around the world”. Commemorating this significant milestone, the company unveiled a special anniversary logo symbolising its three-decade legacy of excellence and impact.

The logo was unveiled by its founders, Krishna Ella, Executive Chairman, and Suchitra Ella, Managing Director, at its Genome Valley facility. The celebration marked the beginning of a year-long calendar of initiatives that highlighted the company’s journey and reaffirmed its focus on advancing global health.

Catalytic role

“As one of the earliest anchor industries in the region, the company played a catalytic role in transforming the region into Genome Valley, a globally-recognised biotechnology hub, now acknowledged as Asia’s largest life sciences cluster,” Ella said.

“Over three decades, Bharat Biotech has helped position India as a trusted innovator and supplier of affordable, high-quality vaccines to the world,” he said.

“Thirty years ago we started Bharat Biotech with a simple but powerful belief that Indian science can solve global health challenges. Our strength has always been our scientists, our proprietary technologies, and our commitment to innovation with purpose,” he said.

From its early breakthrough in developing one of the world’s most affordable recombinant Hepatitis B vaccines, the company went on to develop supply vaccines that form an integral part of national and global immunisation programmes, including vaccines against Covid-19, Rotavirus, Japanese Encephalitis, Malaria (RTS, S), and Typhoid Conjugate Disease, reinforcing its commitment to advancing equitable healthcare worldwide.
