SHILLONG, MAR 2: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virender Kumar on Monday said that the Centre is working with Meghalaya to ease Aadhaar‑related bottlenecks affecting scheme delivery in the hill state.
Speaking after chairing a review meeting at Tara Ghar, noted that Aadhaar linkage runs nationally, but “inconvenience or difficulties” surface in parts of Meghalaya.
“We discussed with the department how to solve this…so implementation can go ahead smoothly in a stipulated timeframe,” he said, adding that nationwide schemes aim for uniform rollout and state‑specific snags are taken up for effective solutions.
Officials told the meeting Aadhaar coverage in Meghalaya lags the national average; some beneficiaries resist enrollment, and others cannot update details because OTPs go to inaccessible SIMs.
Departments said awareness drives and enrollment camps with district officials are ongoing.
Adviser Paul Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah and departmental officers attended.
Kumar said presentations covered PMAY, PMGSY and other programs in East Khasi Hills, and his field visits—to schools, a childcare institute and an old‑age home—checked implementation and outreach.
The trip is part of regular Northeast reviews by Union ministers.
