Bharat Forge and Liebherr-Aerospace Launch Advanced Landing Gear Machining

Pune-based Bharat Forge Limited on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art landing gear components machining facility at Mundhwa in Pune, developed in collaboration with Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities.

With the commissioning of the new facility, Bharat Forge becomes among the first companies in India  and one of the few globally operating at scale  to run OEM-approved machining capabilities for landing gear components.

The move is expected to strengthen India’s position in global aerospace supply chains and deepen the country’s capabilities in high-value aerospace manufacturing.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior leaders from Liebherr-Aerospace, including Martin Wandel, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS; Philipp Walter, Managing Director at Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH; Bernd Schacherl, Director Procurement at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS; and Sanjay Prasad and Sunil Kalra, Managing Directors at Liebherr India Private Limited.

From Bharat Forge, the event was led by Amit Kalyani, Vice-Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, and Guru Biswal, Chief Executive Officer of the company’s aerospace division.

Broader Strategy

Bharat Forge in a statement added that the facility forms part of its broader strategy to build an integrated aerospace manufacturing portfolio. The company currently manufactures a wide range of aerospace components including turbine and compressor parts, forged rings, shafts, discs, and airframe structures, along with landing gear elements.

The company is also setting up an advanced aerospace ring mill in India to manufacture high-value forged rings used in aero-engine programmes, further strengthening its presence in the global aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.

Significant Milestone

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director, Bharat Forge stated, “This state-of-the art facility planned in partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace is a very significant milestone in Bharat Forge’s journey in the Aerospace sector and a testament to our ability to add value to the customer relationships.
