Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao
Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishana Rao has said that the next frontier of financial inclusion is not just about providing basic bank accounts. “A true inclusion means ensuring every citizen, especially those in remote areas, can seamlessly access comprehensive financial products such as credit and insurance,” he said.
Addressing a public policy conclave organised by the Indian School of Business on the ‘Impact of artificial intelligence in financial inclusion’ here on Thursday, he said that artificial intelligence can be a game-changer to achieve this at a massive scale.
“By leveraging Telangana’s robust, real-time citizen databases, AI can eliminate intermediaries, curtail corruption, and provide intuitive, uninterrupted access to government services,” he said.
Rao invited academia, industry, and regulators to collaborate, aiming to make Telangana a national model for integrating AI into daily governance.
The Centre for Analytical Finance (CAF) at the Indian School of Business (ISB), in collaboration with Mphasis, organised the conclave to examine how AI can expand access to formal credit while ensuring trust, fairness, and regulatory stability.
Perceived divide
Dismissing any perceived divide between academic rigour and real-world relevance, Madan Pillutla, Dean, ISB, asserted that exceptional research must drive tangible societal impact. Highlighting the Mphasis-backed “AI for Impact” initiative, Pillutla championed efforts to use AI to assess the creditworthiness of the unbanked, demonstrating that academic expertise can solve pressing challenges in financial inclusion and healthcare.
Santosh Kulkarni, Vice President, Delivery- Banking & Capital Markets, Mphasis Ltd , said that the convergence of academic rigour, government policy, and technology would be key to scaling AI solutions for meaningful societal impact, a statement said here on Thursday.
