Bai Hirabai Charitable Trust is one of the allied, smaller trusts under the umbrella of Tata Trusts.
Srinivasan, a prominent Indian industrialist who was brought on board by the late Ratan Tata, had been appointed after legal consultations were sought regarding the induction of R Krishna Kumar.
Sources said Srinivasan decided to step down after Mehli Mistry raised concerns, even though there is precedent for such appointments.
Mistry has argued that trustees must be of the Parsi Zoroastrian faith and have permanent residence in Mumbai, according to the sources.
