Shift Up plans to share new details surrounding its Stellar Blade sequel and Project Spirits “within the year”, slides from its Q1 2026 earnings presentation reveal.
The studio has the two projects appear in a slide titled “2026 and beyond” with the note: “detailed to be revealed within the year.” As so little is known about the follow-up, any kind of details surrounding a Stellar Blade 2 will essentially be a new announcement of the game.
While the title will obviously launch on PS5, developer Shift Up has grown to the point where it does not need Sony to publish the game anymore. It’s taking publishing efforts in-house, and it’ll also be bringing Shinji Mikami’s next title to market, on the back of the news it’s acquired the studio.
Shift Up seems quite chuffed with the fact it doesn’t need to rely on a publishing partner, as it talks up in its presentation how it now owns “multiple IPs across both live-service and PC/console segments”. It also mentions how its “IP lineup and business capabilities” have been “reinforced”.
The team has been speaking quite openly about the fact it has a Stellar Blade sequel in the works for some time now, and in this presentation, it’s said development is “progressing smoothly” and is on track to meet its “quality standards”.
As it moves to the self-publishing model, Shift Up plans to “lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP, and we expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively”.
Of course, the developer already built an excited fanbase with the first game, which quickly became a fan favourite. We loved the game at launch, awarding it an 8/10 and saying: “With an ever-evolving counter-attacking combat system, some superb art direction, and a sensational soundtrack, this is the kind of back-to-basics PS5 outing that fans have been pleading for.”
