Night Street Games, the team funded by members of the band Imagine Dragons, is laying off staff.
Jonathan Jelinek, executive producer at the studio, shared the news via LinkedIn yesterday. The producer says that the multiplayer shooter Last Flag didn’t achieve the “financial success” that Night Street anticipated, leading to a “reduction” in the team.
“Some exceptionally talented developers were affected by this decision. If you or your company are seeking experienced Unreal developers who contributed to our project, please reach out,” reads the post.
Jelinek concludes by saying that he will be sharing individual profiles of employees searching for jobs. So far, he has reposted five messages from ex-team members. Night Street hasn’t disclosed how many developers were affected in total.
Last Flag was launched a mere month ago on April 14. Over at Steam, it has a Mostly Positive rating, accounting for 475 reviews. In the team’s latest blog post, which was penned on May 1, Night Street said that the game’s player count wasn’t where it needed to be to “support additional development” beyond upcoming planned patches.
“We don’t want to kill our game — we want to give it to the community who helped us get here,” the team wrote. Responding to somebody on LinkedIn, Jelinek says Last Flag was a “very smooth launch from a technical perspective.” Now, the team is focusing on “keeping it alive” and handing it over to the community so they can “continue to have fun with it for years to come.”
Night Street Games joins an ever-growing list of layoffs and studio closures. In May alone, Metacore, 2K, and MercurySteam announced redundancies, while Survios reportedly laid off the majority of its development team.
Game Developer has contacted Night Street Games for more information on the layoffs.
