Shapoorji P. Mistry, Chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, on Wednesday issued a statement supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for national self-reliance and economic discipline in the face of global disruptions triggered by the West Asia conflict.
The statement comes a day after Modi, addressing a public rally in Hyderabad, urged Indians to reduce petroleum consumption, avoid non-essential foreign travel for at least a year, limit gold purchases, prioritise local goods, and revive work-from-home practices adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. The PM also called for greater use of public transport, carpooling, and electric vehicles to cut India’s dependence on imported fuel and conserve foreign exchange reserves.
Mistry described Modi’s leadership as bringing “clarity, confidence, and a sense of calm” during trying times, adding that India has “always risen to every challenge with dignity and determination.”
The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, founded in 1865, operates across engineering and construction, infrastructure, real estate, water, energy, and financial services, employing over 37,000 people across 40 countries.
The endorsement from one of India’s oldest conglomerates signals early backing from the business community for the government’s push toward economic self-reliance amid escalating geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.
