Shillong, May 14: The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday took on record inspection reports on three prisons and granted two weeks to the Amicus Curiae to submit reports on two more facilities, in a suo motu writ petition on prison conditions.
In its order, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh said, “Pursuant to the order dated 10th March, 2026, Mrs. Yangi, learned Amicus has tendered reports on three prisons i.e., Shillong, Nongpoh and Jowai.”
“The said reports are taken on record and a copy thereof is served on the learned Advocate General/AAG. They seek time,” the Bench noted.
Appearing for the petitioner, Amicus Curiae T Yangi B along with Advocate KP Bhattacharjee sought further time to file reports on the remaining prisons.
“Learned Amicus seeks further time of two weeks to enable her to submit a report with respect to two more prisons situated at Williamnagar and Tura. Time granted,” the court ordered.
