Incognito Chat is a recently launched privacy-oriented chat option offered by WhatsApp in collaboration with Meta AI. According to the developers, it will allow users to have confidential conversations with the AI bot without the history of the interaction being recorded. Incognito Chat is based on the Private Processing technology by Meta AI and will be gradually rolled out to WhatsApp and Meta AI apps over the next few months.
As per Meta AI, Incognito Chat creates an entirely separate session with the AI agent on WhatsApp, accessible exclusively to the user. Conversations created using this mode of communication cannot be retrieved or viewed later, and messages expire by default.
The company states that the Incognito Chat feature with Meta AI is optional and will be available on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app as the rollout progresses over the next few months.
Meta also explained that Incognito Chat runs on its Private Processing system, designed to handle AI requests without informing the company. Simply put, your messages are processed in a protected environment separate from Meta’s own servers, so the company says it cannot read what you asked or what the AI replied.
The tech giant also states that this system hides identifying details, such as your IP address, and keeps no record of the conversation after the session ends. Your messages remain encrypted during processing and are automatically deleted upon closing the temporary chat.

WhatsApp says the feature aims to bring the same privacy-first approach to AI features that underpins end-to-end encryption, especially those that require cloud-based processing. According to the company, unlike regular AI chats that can remember conversation history for future responses, Incognito Chat starts fresh each time and doesn’t carry forward any context from previous conversations.
The company also revealed that it’s working with Meta AI on Side Chat, another feature that will allow private AI assistance within an existing conversation and prevent the content of that chat from being leaked.
