Gimenez was a late removal from the lineup because of left wrist soreness, while Guerrero Jr. continues to deal with back tightness. Patrick Corbin will get the start (1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT, Sportsnet, Sportsnet+).
Alejandro Kirk will be back behind the plate after he was left out of the lineup Saturday, while Ernie Clement will shift over to shortstop, and Davis Schneider starts at second base. Charles McAdoo will continue to slot in Guerrero’s place at first base, batting ninth.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Saturday that the team was just being cautious with Guerrero Jr.
“Back was a little tight yesterday, and been kind of grinding, so just wanted to give him a blow. Talked to him after the game, but he’s feeling a little bit better today,” Schneider said.
Guerrero told reporters that his back tightened up during Friday’s win.
The slumping star went 1-for-5 in the win, including an RBI double and a strikeout. Guerrero has yet to hit a home run at home this season, and his most recent dinger overall came nearly one month ago on May 17 against the Detroit Tigers.
On Saturday, Toronto struggled to produce offensively against New York with Louis Varland giving up a two-run home run in the ninth inning in a 3-1 loss.
The Blue Jays have a day off on Monday before opening a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
