Yoga was great this morning. My body needed the stretch, and the class was one of those hard but good sessions. Thanks Taylor!
I find a great yoga class is not only helpful to stretch and ease my body, but it also gives me mental space, to ponder and let my mind drift. Sometimes I come out of class and can’t get my hands on the keyboard fast enough. Today was one of those days. (Might have also had something to do with that lovely little Moon sextile Mercury aspect too
It’s such a momentous time astrologically. So much is shifting, evolving, changing to become something new.
Saturn’s move into Aries has been on my mind, especially parts of a conversation I had with Britt a few weeks back.
Saturn moving out of Pisces feels like waking up.
I know there’s a lot of focus on Saturn going into Aries, and I will get to that. But it seems fitting to look back before we rush forward.
(I’ve previously written about Saturn in Aries here if you missed it. And I found myself re-listening to this classic Crowded House tune, Don’t Dream It’s Over, while writing this post.)
Stillness and the Dream of Saturn in Pisces
I’m thinking about the sluggish, slower and more stagnant qualities of the water signs, and how Saturn in Pisces had a kind of suspended quality. That weird feeling of sinking into a dream, or a season of life and feeling like you’re just there.
For me personally, when Saturn settled into Pisces in March 2023, was the end of an incredibly hectic 18 months, where we’d had an international move and undergone a major renovation at home.
By the time Saturn entered Pisces I didn’t want to do anything, go anywhere or make any more decisions. (If you’ve ever been through a renovation or relocation, you’ll know exactly what I mean!)
I wanted what Saturn in Pisces had to offer: some stillness, time and space just to be. An absence – or at least reduction – of extra doing and managing and rushing. After months of tradespeople in our home, I also wanted quiet, which water signs are associated with.
This preference seems even clearer in hindsight, now that Saturn in Pisces is no more. As if that was what was needed, but likely isn’t any longer.
Now I’m restless. I wonder what’s next. I’m open to movement and change like I haven’t been for some time.
While Saturn was in Pisces I was mulling and reflecting and deeply internal.
I tried a few things, shifted others, and dove deep into healing, but much of life – from the outside looking in – didn’t change. The form and structure and general shape of life was steady.
Now I wonder what kind of shape or structure might be interesting to test out. I don’t know if what is will continue to be the best fit.
This opening, or sense of wondering about movement feels new – and very relevant for Saturn in Aries.
Drying out with Fire Signs
Many astrologers, including myself, talk about a planet moving from a water sign to a fire sign as one that is drying out. Like the planet is shaking off something, being re-energised, as well as gaining clarity and focus.
Maybe this is something you too are feeling as Saturn undergoes this qualitative shift from water to fire?
Maybe you don’t know what’s next, but you recognize the urge to test, to try, to see what might be possible?
Maybe like me you’re simply open to things being different, even if you’re not yet sure how or where or in what way.
Uncertainty Through Transition
The elements of water and fire don’t share any qualities. Water is cold and wet, while fire is hot and dry. They are as different as two elements can be.
So of course, you’re adjusting and feeling discombobulated and out of sorts as such a major planet as Saturn completely changes its expression.
The quality of energy of the past three years, with Saturn in Pisces, had a slow, still stagnant quality. It encouraged continuity as that seemed easier than doing anything new or different. It didn’t mean what you stayed with was necessarily good, it was just easier to continue along than to try and break new ground.
That vibe has changed.
What you could cruise or coast along with you can’t anymore.
As you – and everyone around you – wakes up from this collective dream space you may be energized or startled or even surprised.
“Oh this is it? This is what’s happening? This is real?”
There’s honesty and truth and maybe a difficult realization or three.
And then Aries wants to know, alright then, what are we going to do about – casts arm around – all this?
Because Saturn in Aries is not resting, not stagnant, silent or uninvolved.
Saturn in Aries pushes, pokes, prods, it’s testing, trying and shaking up. Can we challenge convention? Make new rules here?
I recently re-watched Heated Rivalry (spoilers ahead!) and it occurred to me that the plot shift halfway through episode 6 is representative of first Saturn in Pisces, with those dreamy, idyllic, secluded summer time days together at the cottage, then of Saturn in Aries, once Shane’s parents show up and reality hits, as well as the sharing of truths, being honest and the need to consider new plans for the future.
Dry Clarity: Honesty About What Is
The element of fire demands movement, it pushes upwards, it does not stop.
The double dry qualities of Saturn in Aries are clarifying, even if what is realized isn’t great. The gift of Saturn in Aries is seeing things as they are, for better or worse.
Distance and separation are likely with Saturn in Aries, like containment or healthy separation. Of course this can go too far, with fracturing or coming apart, along with the disintegration of structures and forms.
When I think of space and distance like this, I think of the spaghetti arms scene (click through to 2.50) from Dirty Dancing, where Patrick Swayze’s character says, “Your dance space, my dance space.”
Instructions are given that each dancer must stay in their own space, and that’s how the dance comes together. Getting closer doesn’t work here.
This is Saturn in Aries: finding your own dance space. You own area in which to move, activate and express. And to be aware of how your moves affect those around you.
With Saturn in Aries, you might consider how to take responsibility for your efforts, while in turn seeing how they contribute to the larger whole.
What’s shifting and becoming clear within or around you as Saturn powers into Aries?
