Education Week recently published an article, Is Your School’s SEL Strategy Working? The Questions Every Educator Should Ask, which highlighted the above statistic.
The article linked to two resources. One is the Social and Emotional Learning Market Report 2026, which primarily talks about paying for digital resources.
The other is a resource for “Evidence-Based Social and Emotional Learning” from the organization the author of the article runs.
Personally, the main question I’d ask is “Why the hell are you spending any money on Social Emotional Learning when there are zillions of free effective classroom resources?”
I’ve written multiple books chockful of evidence-based SEL lessons, and those books are just a drop in the bucket of excellent SEL resources that are available. You can find a ton of related “Best” lists here.
I am not at all suggesting SEL be a low-priority for schools. In fact, I recommend the exact opposite. But, really, they should spend their money elsewhere…..
