In an interview with The Times, the 25-year-old singer addressed her onstage collapse in 2025. Young didn’t go into detail about what caused her to pass out, as she would like to keep some things private, but she revealed that she was in “recovery.”

“What I would say is that recovery is an ongoing process. I’m not the finished article, but I’m doing a hell of a lot better,” she shared, clarifying that she’s specifically in recovery for drugs. The singer took a break and said she was “being looked after” during the months she stepped away from the spotlight. She checked into a “holistic facility” and now regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Young said that as part of her recovery, she’s now more self-aware and won’t take on more than she can handle in terms of work. “Doing it slower, more intentionally, but doing it in a way I feel is good for me,” she said.

The Singer Collapsed During A Performance

In September 2025, Young was at the All Things Go Festival in New York, performing songs from her second album, “This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway.” While talking to the crowd, the singer said she had a “tricky” few days due to a “sensitive matter” that she didn’t disclose.

In the middle of the song “Conceited,” Young collapsed backward onto the stage. The music was immediately cut, and the crew rushed to her aid. Later on, the singer took to social media and reassured fans that she was okay. “Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now. Thank you for all of your support,” she wrote on Instagram Stories.

Following the incident, Young cancelled her upcoming shows and her North American tour to focus on her health.

Lola Young Spoke Openly About Her Addiction

In a cover story for Rolling Stone published on March 11, Young talked about her onstage collapse and said she’s seen it a few times. The singer shared one of the things that helped her in her recovery, which was learning how to slow down. “Days off, that’s really important. Enjoying time with friends, people that love you,” she shared.

While she was aware that there was some criticism after she cancelled her tour, she knew she needed time to focus on herself. “What else was I going to do, die? That was the reality of where my addiction was heading,” Young revealed.

The singer said the onstage collapse was the “breaking point” for her, and she was “grateful” that it happened, saying that it allowed her to be “better” for her fans and for herself.

Following a months-long hiatus, Young is slowly getting back into the spotlight. She made an appearance at the 2026 Grammys, where she performed a stripped-down version of her hit song “Messy.” Young also took an award for Best Pop Solo Performance for the song.

“I’ve been away, I’ve taken some time out, and this is a beautiful comeback,” the singer told Rolling Stone. She is currently working on new music daily and teased that it was going to be different from her three previous albums.

“I don’t really know what it is yet. But some of it feels minimal. It’s gonna be more positive, but also with a warmth,” she noted.

Lola Young’s Message To Those In Recovery

Young has always been open about her drug addiction, even incorporating her feelings in her songs. “I’ll realize later, ‘Oh f-ck. I shouldn’t have said that I’m a raging drug addict.’ Then I’m like, ‘You know what? I am. What the f-ck am I trying to hide?”

When asked what she wanted to say to people who are also in recovery, Young said that it’s an “ongoing journey,” adding, “You have to be kind to yourself. You have to always remember that you are not alone. You are not ever, ever, alone,” she emphasized, per The Times.

Young is set for a six-date UK tour in June, performing in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and London.
