It has been some time since Pokémon forms or variants were included in a new game. However, Pokopia seems to be bringing them back with a few specific species that have been revealed ahead of the game’s launch.

Pokémon Pokopia will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026. The game follows a Ditto in a dystopian version of the Pokémon world, where it must team up with other species to rehab the barren landscape left behind after whatever the familiar functions of daily trainer life.

Pokopia already looks very different from any previous iteration of the beloved franchise, but there is one element of gameplay that seems to be from a previous generation of games. Regional forms are back in a strange, altered way, introducing a handful of new Pokémon forms that transform beloved species.

Below is everything to know about the new regional forms that have been added in Pokémon Pokopia.

Currently, there are only four confirmed regional forms for Pokémon Pokopia. However, it is likely that more forms will be discovered after the game releases.

The regional forms for Pokopia include:

  • Professor Tangrowth – This version of Tangrowth includes a different coloration and vine structure from a standard Tangrowth.
  • Peakychu – Not much is known about this new form of Pikachu, but it is pale and ghostly, and has a droopy, almost sad appearance.
  • Mosslax – The new version of Snorlax appears to be a standard Snorlax that slept in one place so long it was reclaimed by nature
  • SmearGuru – A new version of Smeargle that has a large tail and a strange paint pattern on its body

Currently, it isn’t known if these Pokémon will be mascots of different biomes that the Ditto main character will have to interact with, or if these will be available to befriend like standard Pokémon. Because Professor Tangrowth is a special NPC, it could be that each of these unique creatures has something important to do with the main story.

At this time, there has been no confirmation that additional regional forms will be added to Pokémon Pokopia. The vast majority of species that have been revealed in trailers and demos have looked the same as their standard forms, making it clear these special variants will be quite rare and important. It also hasn’t been mentioned whether they can appear Shiny. However, if they are important to the story, it is likely they will be Shiny locked if Shiny mechanics are included in Pokopia at all.

Pokémon Pokopia has done a great job of building hype for the strange, cozy exploration sandbox game, and it will be a big change from the battle-heavy mechanics of Legends: Z-A. Hopefully, players will be able to discover all the regional variants and learn what exactly shifted their appearances so dramatically.
