Zack Hoyt, better known as Asmongold, has parted ways with Mythic Talent, the streamer personality agency he co-founded in 2023. Hoyt has been a lightning rod for controversy for years, best known for stirring drama, routine incendiary statements and living in a biohazard of a bedroom. The sudden departure has inevitably led to speculation as Mythic’s official statement is light on specifics.
“We have spoken with Asmongold and mutually agreed to part ways,” Mythic’s official account posted, with replies off. “Mythic represents creators from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, and we are committed to fostering an environment grounded in respect and responsibility. We remain focused on supporting our creators and continuing our mission to help them build sustainable, long-term careers.”
Mythic manages dozens of streamers, content creators and vtubers but co-founder Hoyt is far and away the most popular. Frequently ranting against liberal politics and “wokeness,” Hoyt has made himself the center of many firestorms and harassment campaigns.
Earlier in the week Hoyt said he wouldn’t be emotionally blackmailed into feeling bad about the bombing of a girl’s elementary school in the US’ airstrikes in Iran, an attack that was reported to have killed more than 150 civilians. Some speculate it’s related to his ousting. However, it’s hardly the first dehumanizing thing he’s said about the Middle East, never mind towing the White House’s line. It would be an odd reason to drop Hoyt over this behavior now, even with the military actions in Iran increasingly unpopular among the public.
It’s not even the only scandal Mythic has been facing in the last 24 hours. Grimmi, a vtuber, has alleged that Mythic skimmed money from sponsorships and pocketed it for themselves. That her payouts were inconsistent with previous contractual agreements, with hundreds of dollars missing. The accusations circulated enough to prompt an official response, only hours after the statement regarding Asmongold. “The claims that Mythic ‘skimmed’ funds from her two campaigns are factually incorrect,” Mythic posted, this time with replies on. “Our records indicate that Grimmi was paid in full for both cited activations, per contract terms.”
Whether it’s dramatics on the management end or public-facing shit disturbing, Hoyt’s departure will certainly be a quagmire. The scandals surrounding these personalities are half of the allure. With the people in the middle of the drama often being fabulists and cranks, the true nature of his parting won’t come easily.
