The Witcher 4 is officially grabbing the spotlight again. After that wild technical showcase in June 2025 that basically broke the internet, CD Projekt RED just confirmed that the upcoming Unreal Engine Fest is the place to be for their next deep dive.

We’re talking about the RPG that’s set to push Epic’s new engine to its absolute limit, and honestly, the hype is reaching critical mass.

In a CD Projekt “behind-the-scenes” feature, the parallel between Ciri and Mioni, the young girl in the trailer, is explained

Breaking the Bar: 60 FPS on a standard PS5

Let’s look back for a second. That June 2025 demo was a massive “mic drop” moment for the devs.

Seeing The Witcher 4 hitting a rock-solid 60 FPS on a base PlayStation 5 with Ray Tracing actually turned on, pretty much killed the debate about whether Unreal Engine 5 could handle a massive open world without melting the console.

The footage, set in the freezing wilds of Kovir, wasn’t just about pretty graphics though. It was a technical flex:

  • Nanite Foliage: Every single needle on those pine trees is a physical object now. It means no more of that annoying “pop-in” that used to ruin the immersion in the older games.
  • Movement that feels real: They’re using a new motion matching system so Ciri and her horse, Kelpie, don’t look like two separate 3D models clashing. It’s fluid, grounded, and looks great even on rough terrain.
  • Crowds that actually live: We saw 300+ NPCs in a single market without the frame rate even stuttering. That’s the kind of world-building we’ve been waiting for.

Ciri and the “School of the Lynx” Mystery

It’s no secret anymore: we’re playing as a fully mutated Ciri. Her journey is taking us to spots like Valest, a gritty merchant port where your choices actually change the world’s ecosystem.

And yeah, that final shot of the School of the Lynx medallion is still making lore hunters lose their minds.

The Big Question: When can we actually play it?

We all want it now, but CD Projekt RED is being super careful with the release window. After the lessons learned from past launches, they’re clearly obsessed with polish.

“Stability over speed” is the current vibe in the Polish offices, and if that means a bug-free day one, we’re totally on board.

What Do You Think?

Can Ciri really fill Geralt’s boots for an entire trilogy, or is the white wolf’s shadow just too big? Which part of the Unreal Engine 5 jump are you most excited for?
