Fans of Old Dreamcast Games Are Going to Go Gaga for This Strange Fishing Sim

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen About Fishing, the unsettling Dreamcast era fishing horror from dev The Water Museum.

But it is our best look yet at this oddball adventure, which cites Shenmue and SEGA Bass Fishing among its influences. (We’d also throw Seaman and Silent Hill into the mix.)

As you can see from this gameplay trailer, there’s a lot more to this game than simply angling. There’s a whole mystery aspect to the mechanics, which will see you solving puzzles using your fishing rod.

We’re still not entirely sure what’s going on narratively in this game, but the team is talking a big game when it comes to the simulation aspects.

Here’s what the press release says:

“The world around you moves with time and weather. Fish linger beneath the surface, people follow quiet routines, and the town changes with each passing day. Each person you meet carries their own memories and small joys. Their lives unfold around you, drawing you closer to the peace of a place that slowly begins to feel like home.”

So yes, it’s definitely got that clockwork style sandbox aspect you’d expect from a game inspired by Shenmue.

This is scratching all our itches, and we absolutely adore the early 2000s presentation, with all the dithering and aliased edges.
