Honkai: Star Rail is gearing up for its Version 4.2 update, “So Laughed the Masses,” launching on April 22, bringing new characters, story content, and a wave of anniversary rewards as the game celebrates its third year.
The update continues the escalating stakes of the Phantasmoon Games, while introducing fresh gameplay systems and limited-time events tied to the anniversary celebration.
Anniversary rewards and events headline the update
To mark the game’s third anniversary, Version 4.2 introduces a range of bonuses and returning events. Players can participate in the “Festive Gifts” event to earn 20 pulls, while logging in during the celebration period offers even more rewards.
On April 26, players can select a companion blessing card and receive 1,600 Stellar Jades, alongside additional anniversary surprises including limited-time store additions and bonuses.
The update also includes the return of top-up bonus resets and additional in-game rewards through various anniversary activities.
New story content raises the stakes
Version 4.2 expands the main story as the Phantasmoon Games intensify, with a new twist: the ultimate victor will become the permanent Aeon of Elation.
Players will be drawn into a high-stakes televised debate hosted by Fulwish in Seafeld City, where multiple factions clash over the future of the Games. As tensions rise, players must navigate political schemes, gather power, and uncover hidden threats beneath the surface.
New 5-star characters join the roster
The update introduces two new 5-star characters aligned with the Path of Elation:
- Silver Wolf LV.999 – A powered-up version of the fan-favorite hacker, now capable of entering a “Godmode Player” state that reshapes combat with unique buffs and battlefield effects.
- Evanescia – A mysterious observer who builds power through “Certified Banger” stacks, increasing damage output and triggering additional attacks.
Additionally, the Trailblazer (Path of Elation) joins with a new weapon that changes form and supports both offensive and team-based abilities.
New modes, events, and returning content
Version 4.2 also expands gameplay with new and updated activities, including:
- Cosmic Data Roaming, a new event centered around showcasing combat as a streamer-style experience
- Expanded Currency Wars gameplay
- Cosmicon Collective 2.0, adding new decks, dice, and team-based challenges
- Additional activities like Express Renovation Escapade and Relic Recon
Multiple character reruns and balance updates are also included, alongside buffs for existing characters such as Firefly, Huohuo, Seele, and Welt.
