Getting Paper in Pokopia is going to take a bit of work, but it is more than worth the trouble due to its use in numerous furniture recipes. In this guide, players will learn to get paper as early as the Bleak Beach Biome, and all it takes is Trubbish and a little elbow grease.
Paper is a key crafting material in Pokopia. It is used to make many different types of cute furniture, including bookshelves. It is also important for completing several quests, like a request made in the Team Initiation Challenge quest line. When first getting into the game, it may seem that Paper is locked behind access to the Sparkling Skylands. However, players can get it as early as Bleak Beach if they know where to look.
To do this, you will need to set up a few key areas before hunting down Paper materials. Below is everything players need to know to get Paper in Pokopia.
How to Craft Glass in Pokopia
Glass is a key component of dozens of crafting recipes in Pokopia, but players will need the right resources and crafting tables to get it.
How to Craft Paper in Pokopia
For those who are a bit further along in the game, making paper in Pokopia requires Wastepaper and a Pokémon with the Recycle Specialty. If you already have Wastepaper from Sparkling Skylands, you’ll be set to go. Give the Wastepaper to the Pokémon with the Recycle Specialty, and they will transform it into Paper for crafting.
However, if you have just started the game and are running into a need for Paper while only having access to the first three Biomes, we are going to break things down a bit further.
Pokémon with the Recycle Specialty in Pokopia
Below are all the Pokémon with the Recycle Specialty in Pokopia:
- Magnezone
- Koffing
- Trubbish
- Garbodor
- Cinccino
- Porygon
- Porygon2
- Beldum
- Metang
- Metagross
For this guide, we are going to recommend Trubbish as the Pokémon to get for recycling in early game. This is due to Trubbish being part of the main storyline in Bleak Beach that unlocks the Recycle Specialty for use.
How to Get Trubbish for Crafting Paper in Pokopia
To get Trubbish, you will need to reach Bleak Beach. Once you have unlocked Bleak Beach in Pokopia by completing Slowpoke’s quest line in Withered Wastelands and reaching the “Great” Trainer Level, you will need to progress the story up to Piplup’s debut and assistance in removing the mud from the town.
After finding Piplup and scrubbing the town for a while, Piplup will head over and speak with Tangrowth about the desire for a shower.
Speak with the pair to obtain Trubbish’s Habitat requirements. It is technically possible to recruit Trubbish before this point as long as you have the recipe to make Trash Bags, but until the shower quest is activated, it won’t be possible to recycle anything in Pokopia.
To attract Trubbish, build the Trash Collection Site. This will require the following furniture items and decorations:
- 1 Garbage Bags
- 1 Waste Bin
- 1 Sign
Garbage bags are the hardest item to get, as waste bins can be found all over the town. To get the Trash Bags, head east in the Bleak Beach Biome and search for the abandoned homes. Those lucky enough to snag the crafting recipe for Trash Bags from the PC Shop or a Glowing Treasure Spot can opt to craft some for one Nonburnable Garbage.
Once you have everything, place the sign down on some watered grass. Place the Garbage Bags in front of the sign, and the Waste Bin to the left of the sign.
It won’t take long for Trubbish to appear. If you get a different Pokémon, which is unlikely, build a second Habitat and try again. Once Trubbish has spawned, speak to it for help turning Nonburnable Garbage into Iron Ore. This will unlock recycling in Pokopia.
How to Find Wastepaper in Pokopia
The real trick to making Paper in Pokopia is locating Wastepaper for Trubbish to Recycle. While it appears that Wastepaper is locked to the Sparkling Skylands Biome or Sky Dream Islands, players can actually get it almost immediately after starting their game by traveling to Pallet Town.
To reach Pallet Town, head back to the Withered Wastelands and take the exit onto the beach that is to the left of the Pokémon Center. Keep going left until you find a long bike path that stretches into the distance.
Take the Bike Path to enter Pallet Town. Head to the left and cross the water to the sandy island to the Northwest. Here, on the sand, players will find piles of Wastepaper scattered around.
Once the Sparkling Skylands Biome has been unlocked, getting Wastepaper will become much easier. Players can also grind unlimited quantities through the Sky Dream Island, which is accessed via the Dragonite Poke Doll.
With paper in hand, players will be able to build numerous bookshelves or take on a special quest while playing Pokopia. While it isn’t easy to get, it will add a wide variety of decorations and furniture to any town.
