The latest development diary about Kickstarted multiplayer sandbox My Time At Evershine is about having some difficult discussions with fans. No, not the kind of difficult discussion wherein the game is being abandoned, nothing like that, but the kind where original concepts from the Kickstarter don’t work out. For example, the brick-by-brick style for building structures was great for a few structures, but in practice when you need to build dozens, it just wasn’t enough. So that feature is being moved to be more about overall town growth, with structures cycling through materials as your town gets larger and more developed.
It’s part of a larger effort to work on pain points, developer Pathea games explains. NPCs arriving in the town felt like they would go immediately to work with little interaction; now, the plan is to make sure they move in with a welcome gift, and they display gifts you give them in return in their homes. Placement of buildings and structures can now be done within a grid for players who want things perfectly aligned, and the governor’s mansion – your own home – remains fully customizable and far more tangible in its progression rewards. Check out the full article for a clearer picture of how the game’s development has evolved through testing and refinement.
