Direct-join union United Videogame Workers of CWA (UVW-CWA) has launched the Game Workers Conference (GWC) and has pledged to create an event “by workers, for workers.”
The event was announced at GDC Festival of Gaming and has been organized in partnership with other unions and worker-centered organizations.
GWC will be held online online on Friday May 22, 2026 and Saturday May 23, 2026. Organizers will also host optional watch parties at physical venues in cities including Los Angeles, Montréal, and New York City.
Notably, all conference sessions will be freely accessible.
“The Game Workers Conference is an entirely new game industry event made by and for the countless workers who make this massively influential industry and artistic medium succeed,” reads a statement on the GWC website.
GWC organizers said speakers and sessions will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event, but noted that talks will cover a range of subjects including industry skills, project postmortems, movement work, union campaigns, and more.
Some attendees have been confirmed, including members of The Game Awards Future Class, who’ll be discussing their experiences with the seemingly shuttered program. SAG-AFTRA organizers will also be sharing lessons from their history of organizing in the games industry, including their recent voice actor strike and fight against AI.
In addition, video game journalists will be taking part in a panel to discuss the ties between press and industry and their relationship with the game worker movement.
Tickets for GWC are available right now.
Game Developer and GDC Festival of Gaming are sibling companies under Informa Festivals.
