ImpossibleWin3916 summed it up simply: “This is incredibly unprofessional and shameful.”
The criticism has been so negative that a developer who worked on the original release of the remastered classics has publicly come out and distanced themselves from the update. Giovannu Lucca, who is credited as the lead artist on the 1-3 Remastered release, and also Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, said he wasn’t “involved in the art direction of this new patch with the Challenge Mode for Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered”.
Lucca goes on to explain that “none of the original developers” at Saber Interactive were involved with the Challenge Mode update, which added these new skins to the release. This has fuelled the theories of AI-usage in relation to the new costumes further.
Another poster claims the new update has actually introduced more bugs and technical issues to the game.
“Some players have lost their entire saves, others have played the music of the main menu even while playing, the subtitles are now complete asynchronous, many can no longer switch between games in the main menu, where you can switch to challenge mode and leave the main menu,” according to Aazzle. “The interface simply no longer displays the options to switch between each game. So you have to finish the whole game and restart it.”
