New Delhi: Corporate hospital chain, Medanta, has announced plan to set up a 400-bed multi-specialty hospital in the Varanasi.
The hospital has entered into a Built-to-Suit and lease arrangement, with Shripal Hospitality and others, to establish a super speciality hospital in Varanasi.
Under the agreement, the civil infrastructure of the hospital will be developed by the partner in line with Medanta’s specifications, while Medanta will invest around around Rs 550 crores in interior services, fit outs and medical equipment.
The new facility in Varanasi will strengthen Medanta’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, complementing its 950-bed flagship hospital in Lucknow and the recently opened 550-bed hospital in Noida. With this addition, Medanta’s total bed capacity in the state will rise to 1,900.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and MD Medanta, said, “This expansion reflects Medanta’s commitment to enhancing access to advanced healthcare in a densely populated region, while delivering high-quality, patient-centric care with compassion.”
“Varanasi represents a significantly underserved market for quality healthcare. The city currently faces a gap in access to high-quality tertiary care, with a majority of existing facilities operating at a relatively smaller scale of 50 to 150 beds, patients often need to travel outside the city to access advanced and complex treatments,” Pankaj Sahni, Group CEO, Medanta, added.
