The biggest change in Mumbai Indians was in 2024 when Hardik Pandya returned from Gujarat Titans and took over as captain from Rohit Sharma. They can appoint Surya as captain at any time; they don’t need to announce it yet.

He also highlighted the unusual situation within the team, explaining that several World Cup-winning captains are currently playing under Hardik’s captaincy. This is a strange situation. Hardik is a good captain. However, now two T20 World Cup-winning captains are playing under his leadership. This could be an internal policy within their system that they need to resolve. From the outside, Suryakumar Yadav clearly seems like the best choice.

Srikkant further stated that this is a strange situation, as Hardik played under Rohit and Surya’s captaincy and helped India win the World Cup. In such a situation, Hardik should decline the captaincy and let Surya lead the team. If Hardik himself tells the management this, all the problems will be solved.
