On January 4, 2018, the National People’s Party (NPP) launched its campaign for a “Resurgent and New Meghalaya” with a massive rally in Shillong. The message was clear, the party was committed to serve the people of the state.
Eight years later, Meghalaya stands at an important milestone. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the state has witnessed a phase of stability and sustained development. Governance during this period has focused on strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity, enhancing social welfare programmes, and expanding opportunities for youth, farmers and entrepreneurs.
Over the years, Meghalaya has seen the launch and completion of several major initiatives and projects aimed at transforming the state’s growth trajectory. Investments in road connectivity, health infrastructure, education, tourism, digital governance and rural development have expanded significantly. Many projects that once seemed distant aspirations are today becoming realities, bringing new confidence and optimism among the people.
Development is always accompanied by debate and differing opinions, a healthy feature of any democracy. While there are critics who question the pace or approach of governance, there is also a growing section of citizens who acknowledge the visible changes taking place across the state. The aspiration that Meghalaya can emerge as one of the leading states in India is now widely shared.
When the NPP leadership began its journey in 2018, the focus was never about occupying positions of power. The primary objective was to serve the people and build a stronger future for Meghalaya. The people of the state placed their trust in this vision by giving the party the mandate to lead the government for two consecutive terms.
For this trust, the NPP led government remains deeply grateful to the people of Meghalaya. Their faith and participation in the democratic process have been the guiding force behind every policy, programme and initiative undertaken over the last eight years.
In a diverse democracy like India, political choices differ and competing viewpoints are natural. Different parties represent different perspectives and aspirations of the people. Yet, beyond political differences, the collective goal remains the development and well-being of the state.
Today, as Meghalaya marks eight years under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the longest-serving Chief Minister of the state, it is an occasion to acknowledge his role in bringing political stability and continuity in governance. Stability has enabled the state to pursue long-term development goals and ensure sustained growth across sectors.
As this milestone is celebrated, it is also a moment to thank the people of Meghalaya for their support and faith in the democratic process. Their aspirations continue to inspire the government to work harder.
With humility and renewed commitment, the leadership pledges to continue serving the people with dedication, transparency and accountability, striving to build a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive Meghalaya for generations to come.
