Shillong, March 9: A media delegation comprising 10 members from Meghalaya reached Gangtok today as part of a six-day media exposure tour to Sikkim organised by Press Information Bureau (PIB) Shillong. The delegation was warmly received by officials of PIB Gangtok upon their arrival.

The exposure visit has been organised as part of PIB Shillong’s efforts to strengthen engagement with regional media and provide journalists with first-hand insights into key developmental initiatives in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, tourism, research and border area development.

During the tour, the media delegation will visit several important institutions and locations across the state and interact with officials and stakeholders to understand successful initiatives and best practices.

The programme includes a visit to the Spices Board India Regional Office at Gangtok, where the journalists will learn about initiatives related to large cardamom cultivation, export potential and farmer support mechanisms. The delegation will also visit the ICAR–National Research Centre for Orchids to gain insights into research and developments in floriculture, orchid conservation and agri-based livelihoods. The journalists will also visit the Indian Orchid Festival 2026 at Pakyong, which showcases the rich orchid diversity of the region and promotes floriculture and eco-tourism.

As part of the programme, the delegation will also visit a Vibrant Village at Tingra to understand developmental initiatives being implemented in border areas under the Vibrant Villages Programme.

The delegation is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Governor of Sikkim and the Chief Minister of Sikkim to understand the state’s governance priorities and key developmental initiatives.

The visit will also cover prominent cultural and eco-tourism sites including Rumtek Monastery, Ban Jhakri Falls and Energy Park, and Tsomgo Lake, highlighting Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. The delegation will also visit the strategic border location of Nathu La Pass and Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir to gain insights into the importance of border infrastructure and the role of the armed forces in the region.

The press tour aims to enable journalists to observe the implementation of Government of India schemes and development programmes at the grassroots level, interact with beneficiaries and local communities, and gather first-hand stories, visuals and insights from the field.
