Shillong, March 17: East Khasi Hills police have busted a suspected bike theft racket operating across Shillong and adjoining areas, recovering multiple stolen motorcycles and dismantled vehicle parts during a raid in Ladrymbai.
The crackdown follows the arrest of four accused—Vincentstar Tongwah (23), Kitborlang Mawlong (21), Royalroy Lyngdoh (23), and Ayan Kharthangmaw (21)—in connection with a bike theft case reported at Golflinks on March 2.
Police said the accused were linked to multiple theft cases registered at Laitumkhrah and Sadar police stations. During interrogation, they confessed to stealing motorcycles from different parts of Shillong, including Umroi, Goraline, Laitumkhrah and Golflinks.

Investigations revealed that the stolen vehicles were transported to Ladrymbai, where they were dismantled. Acting on the inputs, a joint team from East Khasi Hills police and Jowai police conducted a raid at an under-construction building in Ladrymbai, Dongwah.
During the operation, police recovered one Yamaha R15 motorcycle, one Yamaha Ray Z scooter, dismantled parts of another Yamaha R15
and dismantled parts of a scooty.
Officials said several bike parts were packed in sacks and ready for dispatch, indicating a well-organised network involved in the theft and illegal trade of vehicle components.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said efforts are ongoing to crack down on the broader bike theft nexus operating in the region.
