Shillong, March 14: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) will host the 8th edition of the North East Graduate Congress (NEGC) 2026 from March 26 to 28, bringing together thousands of undergraduate students from colleges and universities across the Northeast for what organisers describe as the region’s largest youth academic and cultural gathering.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Shillong Club on Friday, where organisers outlined the objectives and highlights of the three-day mega event to be held at the USTM campus.
The press meet was attended by Er. Fidel War, Honorary Director of the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF); Dr Mehzabeen Rahman, Principal Secretary, USTM; Dr Rashmi Baruah, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, USTM; and Dr Amilia Nongbet, Head of the Department of Botany, who briefed the media about the scale and significance of the Congress.
Organised by ERDF, the NEGC has grown into a major platform for undergraduate students in the Northeast to engage with leading academicians, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and youth icons. The event aims to foster leadership, creativity, innovation and career readiness among young participants through competitions, knowledge sessions and interactive forums.
The three-day Congress will feature a wide range of literary, cultural, creative and sports competitions, including quiz, debate, photography, on-the-spot painting, business ideathon and innovation-based contests. Organisers announced that cash prizes worth nearly ₹50 lakh will be awarded across various categories to encourage student participation and talent.
A major attraction of NEGC 2026 will be the “One North East Music Festival,” which will showcase the region’s rich musical diversity. The festival will feature performances by legendary rock icon Lou Majaw, along with popular artists Madhubanti Bagchi, Aditya Narayan and Dharmesh Yelande, besides regional bands including Hillphonic and other performers from across the Northeast.
The Congress will also host special sessions and panel discussions on youth development, entrepreneurship, personality development and emerging career opportunities, providing students with opportunities to interact with experts and gain insights into future career paths.
Another highlight of the event will be the Zubeen Garg Fellowship, instituted to recognise outstanding young talents from the region. The fellowship seeks to encourage excellence in creative, academic and leadership pursuits while inspiring young people to contribute positively to society.
Conceptualised by ERDF, the North East Graduate Congress has evolved into a unique platform for undergraduate students to interact with thought leaders and explore new opportunities for their future. Through the initiative, USTM aims to promote regional integration, nurture talent and empower youth across the Northeast.
