Fulham defender Calvin Bassey is expected to return to action on April 11 after missing Nigeria’s March international friendlies due to a back injury.
Bassey was originally named in Nigeria’s squad for matches against Iran and Jordan but pulled out shortly before the games. His withdrawal raised concerns, especially as he had just played the full 90 minutes in Fulham’s 3–1 Premier League win over Burnley before the international break.
However, medical checks later confirmed that the injury is not serious. The defender is now set to resume full training in early April and could return to competitive action soon after.
During his absence, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle invited Chibuike Nwaiwu as a replacement to strengthen the defence and give another player a chance to impress.
Bassey’s return will be a big boost for Fulham FC as the season enters a crucial stage. The club has had enough time during the break to allow him recover fully.
He is expected to be available for Fulham’s next Premier League match against Liverpool FC at Anfield, a key fixture in the final weeks of the season.
The 26-year-old has been an important player for Fulham this season, featuring regularly in defence. Apart from his time away at the Africa Cup of Nations, he has remained a consistent presence in the team and will be eager to return and help his side finish strongly.
