Brad Fittler has delivered some coaching advice to Kieran Foran as he prepares for his first match as Manly Sea Eagles boss.

Foran has slipped into the interim role after Anthony Seibold’s axing despite only being new to his assistant coach position, having retired from playing just last year.

Fittler was in a similar position to Foran almost two decades ago in 2007.

Having retired from playing at the Roosters three years earlier, he became head coach after Chris Anderson quit following a 56-0 loss to Manly.

The Roosters legend’s takeover came midway through the season and led to an unbeaten run of five matches.

Foran’s run at Manly will start with three away matches against the Dolphins, Dragons and Cowboys which Fittler believes could be the ideal way to start.

“It gives you a chance though to find your feet, being away and being with the team,” he said on Wide World of Sports’ Freddy & The Eighth.

“When I first got the job, mine was very similar, it was right after a Manly-Roosters game, the Roosters got pumped and they moved Chris Anderson on and I went in the week after.

“We had a camp in Kiama and that worked unbelievably. It just gave us a chance to go down, refocus, start again and off we went. So I think the actual fact he’s got a couple of away games and can travel will be good.”

However, Fittler did warn Foran there’s a lot of head noise to come.

“Your brain won’t stop,” he said.

“When you’re the assistant you can go home and slow down and deliberately tell yourself what you want to think about at training or talk to a player about, but outside that it will go away and you can get on with your life.

“When you’re the head coach there’s none of that, you don’t get your life back. You’re constantly churning through (thoughts) … that’ll be the thing he notices, when you’re lying down in bed at night your brain is constant.

“But it’s exciting, it’s a great job but it’s hard, it pulls your body apart.”

Foran’s Sea Eagles face the Dolphins on Thursday night.
