Pokémon Winds & Waves was revealed during the 30th Anniversary Pokémon Presents Livestream, showcasing a new region and the next set of starters.
After much anticipation, Pokémon Winds & Waves has been announced, confirming speculation that has circulated on the internet for months following a major info leak in 2025. The new region is tropical a heavy emphasis on waterways and aquatic ecosystems. However, the trailer didn’t offer many details about the game outside of appearances.
The confirmation of Gen 10 happened during the 30th Anniversary Pokémon Presents Livestream that aired on February 27, 2026. The trailer also confirmed that Winds & Waves will release sometime in 2027, but didn’t offer a more specific window. If the games follow past releases, it is likely they will drop during the holiday months of the release year.
Pokémon Champions Confirms Release Date and It’s Closer Than You Think
Pokémon Champions has announced its release date and consoles, and players won’t have to wait long to get playing.
Pokémon Winds & Waves Trailer Announces Region Starters
To get players excited, the Winds & Waves trailer gave the first look at the new region starters, Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.
Browt is the newest Grass-type starter. It resembles a small bird with a citrus-green body and leaf sprout beak. Pombon is the Fire-type starter and looks like a Pomeranian puppy. Gequa is the Water-type option that looks very similar to Galar’s Sobble but with better eyeliner. Each option is very cute and colored to match its specific typing.
All three Pokémon seem to resemble species found in the real-world location that had inspired the new region. According to early information, the tropical setting was based on the Southeast Asian islands and Indonesia. This is an exciting and sunny follow-up to Paldea, which was inspired by Spain.
At this time, no other Gen 10 Pokémon have been revealed, and the evolutions of the starters are still a mystery. However, this small look into the new region gives players some clues about how new species may look when they are revealed in the future. It seems the game is going for a more simplistic style that will work well with the 3D models used in the game.
Despite its Pokémon Day announcement, it isn’t likely that more news of Winds & Waves will be available anytime soon. The 2027 release year means fans may not see any more information about the Gen 10 region until late this year or early next year, especially as The Pokémon Company will be focused on Pokémon Champions and Pokopia for the next few months.
While players wait for more information on Pokémon Winds & Waves, they can stay up to date on all new details via the Pokémon website for the game and the official social media accounts. During past region releases, new Pokémon, evolutions, and region details have been offered in social media posts or new mini trailers. However, it may be several months before any additional information is released.
