Kyler Murray has an early suitor.
The Minnesota Vikings are the favourites to land the former first-overall pick, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday.
The Arizona Cardinals officially released Murray at the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
Minnesota has J.J. McCarthy under contract, but are looking for a veteran to complement the youngster as he finds his footing in the league.
McCarthy was selected 10th overall in 2024, and missed his entire rookie season with an injury. Last season, he quarterbacked the Vikings to a 6-4 record in his 10 starts, throwing 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Murray spent his first seven seasons in Arizona after being selected first overall in the 2019 draft, but was informed of his release on March 3.
The 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year winner was limited to just five games last season due to a foot injury, throwing for 962 yards and six touchdowns.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Murray has made 87 starts in his career, and when healthy, is one of the best dual-threat QBs in the league. His 3,193 rushing yards ranks fourth among all QBs since 2019, while his 32 TDs are third-most.
