Guwahati, March 14: Four people were killed and ten others, including a child, were seriously injured in a tragic road accident early Sunday morning in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.
The accident occurred at Lakhijan under Bokajan Police Station when an Ultra bus (AS-21-AC-3357) travelling from Morigaon to Dimapur reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp turn and crashed into a large roadside tree.
The impact of the collision was severe, killing the driver and two passengers on the spot, while another injured passenger later succumbed to injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Barek, Khalil Rahman, Sabina Sultana and Alal Uddin, all residents of Morigaon district.
Police said that soon after receiving information about the accident, personnel from Bokajan Police Station rushed to the spot. With the assistance of local residents, they rescued the injured passengers and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
A total of ten passengers, including a child, sustained injuries in the incident. Due to the severity of their condition, the injured were later referred to Dimapur for advanced medical treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, the tragic incident during the holy month of Ramadan has cast a pall of gloom over the area.
