Wedding Day Charts fall under the Branch of Astrology known as electional; this is when you select (elect) the most auspicious timing for an event. We can do this with everything from launching a new business to getting married or taking a vacation.
It is important to understand that we must consider a person’s natal chart, including wounds, blocks, and challenges. Next, we look at the synastry of the couple, and last, we consider the Wedding Day Chart. It is challenging to get a perfect Wedding Day Chart, but even a near-perfect wedding date will not negate personal natal chart or synastry challenges.
The Wedding Day chart is erected from the moment a couple says I do.
It is not the time of the reception.
The Moon
I like to see the Moon placed in a happy sign on the day of the Wedding; if this is not possible, above all, I want to see the Sun and Moon meeting via conjunction, trine or sextile, The Sun and Moon in a Wedding Day Chart represent the couple that are getting married therefore you want to see these planets coming together in a harmonious aspect. I always advise against marrying on a Full Moon. This aspect suggests the couple is at odds with one another or, at the very least, not in sync. Several years ago, many celebrity couples were married on 11/11/11 during a Full Moon Phase, and they are now divorced.
- Yolanda and David Foster
- Kim Zolciak and Kray Biermann
- Kenan Thompson and Christina Evangeline
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard married on a Full Moon as well they had one of the worst Wedding Day charts I have ever seen.

You also do not want to marry the day before a New Moon phase, as this Moon phase represents endings and letting go.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes married two days before the New Moon.
Venus
Venus should be placed in a happy sign, where it thrives. This is the planet that governs love and relating. If you are unable to pick a day when Venus is placed in Libra or Taurus (signs of rulership), Venus mustn’t be aspected harshly by Saturn, Neptune, or Uranus. If Venus aspects Saturn in a square, opposition or conjunction the marriage may be challenging, based on obligation and short on love, if Venus makes a hard aspect to Uranus this may result in quick marriage followed by a quick divorce, a marriage where the parties remain at a distance or a connection that runs hot and cold, Neptune making a hard aspect to Venus can suggest you are not seeing one another clearly.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee married when Venus was in Capricorn, conjoining Neptune in Capricorn, which reflects the difficulty and karmic nature of the relationship as well as the: whirlwind/fairy tale romance aspect.
Often, people fret about Mercury being retrograde, but that can suggest more hiccups with planning than actual marriage dramas. Perhaps the invitations have the wrong date, or the flowers do not arrive on time. The retrograde you want to be aware of is Venus Retrograde.
In my humble opinion, people who marry or get engaged during Venus Retrograde are often those couples that have been together forever and are throwing that last-ditch effort to save that relationship. If that is not the case, marrying during Venus Retrograde can suggest that this relationship has many karmic lessons to work through in this lifetime.
Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez married during Venus ‘ Retrograde.
Some other things to remember
Keep in mind that the Wedding Day Chart essentially becomes the Natal Chart of the Marriage.
Some other aspects to consider
Venus and Mars, the planets that govern love and sex, should ideally have nice aspects between them
Pink and Carey Hart have discussed experiencing dry spells lasting over a year, and they were married on a day when Venus and Mars did not make an aspect.
When selecting a date for your wedding, ask yourself:
Do I really want Mars, the planet that governs war, in the 4th house, the house that governs home and family?
Do I really want Uranus, the planet that rules instability in the 7th house, the house that governs marriage and relating?
Do I really want a wedding day when Saturn is squaring the Sun and the Moon? The entire relationship will be difficult.
A perfect date does not exist, but I hope these quick tips help you select the best date possible.
Look at the Sun, Moon, and Venus, are they happy by sign and aspect?
Look at the planets; what houses are they falling in?
Do you want that energy in that area of life?
What, if any, planets are retrograde, and what does this energy represent?
Happy Planning xo
