Thinking about the entry of Mercury into Cancer for an extended stay, from June 1 – August 9, 2026, and how this extra long tour of Mercury in Cancer comes hot on the heels of the once in 12 years transit of Jupiter in Cancer, has brought many interesting threads and memories to light.

Recently we were away for the weekend with our adult kids and their partners. For the past few years, we’ve rented a home somewhere close-ish driving wise to everyone and piled in for a weekend catch up together.

With adult kids living in various locations, we don’t have weekly meals or catch ups, so this weekend is chance to share a meal, chat on the couch, play a board game – or three! – go for walks and generally spend time together.

Peter and I leave the weekend with our hearts full. We love the chance to be with the kids as they move into their own lives, and the time together helps deepen our existing connections as well as make new memories for the future.

Dreams and Plans

As you can imagine, the planning for a weekend away like this starts months in advance, when we message back and forth to co-ordinate the schedules of six people. Once the dates are locked in, then a location is discussed. Enthusiasm for the time together and hopes for connection and good times carry us through all the logistics, preparing and organizing.

It’s then time for the weekend together and it’s always even more than we can imagine. Random chats, insights into who everyone is becoming, and support for any challenges any of us might be facing.

Afterwards, we head home, a little tired in the body but warm and glowing in our hearts, having eaten far too many treats, but content in our renewed sense of family, care and connection.

After the Adventure

Then it’s back to reality, with the logistics of things like laundry, work and regular life. It’s also when our thoughts turn to plans for next year, with a little reflection on what we loved, thoughts on what we might tweak to make things even better and curiosity about how to continue carrying on our family tradition.

This mix of experiences – the guiding vision of the adventure and shared intention, the enthusiasm to step outside daily life for something different, the sorting out and settling back in afterwards as well as reflection, evaluation and then curiosity for what’s next – feels like part of what you too might be navigating as the Cancer part of your chart and life begins to shift it’s expression away from hopes and grand plans of Jupiter towards details, specifics and its own process of evaluation thanks to Mercury.

Explore Cravings and Hunger with Mercury in Cancer

Mercury in Cancer might help you tune into some of the so far unexpressed yearnings about what you crave and what you’re really hungry for, as well as help you put a schedule or step-by-step plan in place for any big dreams that have emerged since Jupiter began its tour through Cancer, back in June 2025.

The past 12 months may have revealed clues or wishes about what might be most nourishing for you. If so, the next 10 weeks can help you research and reflect on how to best make those experiences, and rituals happen, as well as help you collaborate with those who might long for similar things.

Mercury Retrograde and Saturn in Aries

Mercury’s extended tour through Cancer will include a retrograde, from June 29 – July 22, 2026.

The whole time Mercury is in Cancer it will be involved in a sign-based square with Saturn in Aries, however this Mercury square Saturn aspect feels especially loud towards the end of the retrograde, as well as briefly in mid-June.

When Mercury stations direct in late July, it will only be a couple of degrees away from Saturn. While that Mercury square to Saturn won’t become exact by degree, from July 18 – 29 Mercury will be within 3 degrees of a square with Saturn, and a sense of caution, restraint or hesitation might seem heavier than usual.

This Mercury square Saturn theme kicks off with the exact square from Mercury at 12 Cancer to Saturn at 12 Aries, on June 10.

Clarifying your limits, being clear about boundaries or opting out of things instead of saying yes might be appropriate. You might revisit these themes again in late July, around the Mercury station.

So, this is a mid-year season of Mercury in Cancer, with an undertone of a square to Saturn in Aries. Whether it’s summer or winter, you might be less inclined to push limits and instead notice you’re more interested in people and places that are familiar and feel safe.

You might prefer to scale back plans and regular commitments, to help keep things manageable and simple.

Cancer and Saturn are both more frugal by nature, and you may notice that intentional choices which cost less appeal, or that you prefer simple plans rather than extravagant options.

Mercury and the Moon

Mercury in the sign of the Moon can help you tune into the flow and feel of things and may help you better understand the underlying flux around feeling, need and connection.

You might use this extended cycle of Mercury in Cancer to explore the rhythms that most sustain you and honor the ways in which your attention and curiosity might shift every few days.

With Mercury in Cancer for so many weeks, you might find yourself reminiscing or talking about past events and experiences. Putting thoughts, feelings and reflections into words – either through conversation or on the page – can help you digest both current circumstances and old experiences.

A slower, more reflective pace might help you tap into maturity and the wisdom that comes from experience. In turn you might yourself embracing a less is more attitude or finding that simplicity in planning and gathering helps support depth of connection and more nourishing interactions.

I’d love to hear what’s bubbling up in your mind or memory now that Mercury is in Cancer.
