Paint is the key to changing furniture colors in Pokopia, but it isn’t as simple as buying paint options from the PC Shop. Instead, players will need to learn how to crush up berries for specific colors, and white is one of the hardest to obtain.

When building towns in Pokopia, players have dozens of furniture and decoration choices to pick from. However, to customize colors, they will need to go on an adventure to locate a specific Pokémon hidden deep in the Bleak Beach Biome. Smearguru is the key to learning how to paint.

Below is everything players need to know to find Smearguru and learn how to make paint in Pokopia.

Glass is a key component of dozens of crafting recipes in Pokopia, but players will need the right resources and crafting tables to get it.

Pokopia 1.0.2 Patch Notes

To craft paint in Pokopia, players must unlock the Bleak Beach Biome by completing Slowpoke’s quest in the Withered Wastelands and then locating Smearguru on the far side of the collapsed town. Smearguru will request players to make some red paint from Leppa Berries.

To do this, pick some Leppa Berries from a tree and then speak to a Pokémon that has the “Crush” Specialty. They can smash the berries down into paint. Below are all the Pokémon with the “Crush” Specialty in Pokopia.

  • Onix
  • Steelix
  • Conkeldurr
  • Pawmo
  • Electivire
  • Pawmot
  • Dugtrio
  • Geodude
  • Graveler
  • Golem
  • Magmorter
  • Pupitar
  • Tyranitar
  • Metagross
  • Cranidos
  • Rampardos
  • Shieldon
  • Bastiodon
  • Tyrunt
  • Tyrantrum
  • Amaura
  • Aurorus

Pawmo is the recommended option for this task, as its habitat will be offered to players alongside the request to make the paint. Going back to Onix in Withered Wastelands is also an option.

While learning to make paint isn’t too challenging, getting White or Black paint is very difficult. Both paints are rare drops from other Berry types, and there is no guarantee that they will be produced when crushing Berries for paint.

White paint is produced by crushing either Leppa or Chesto berries. These both have a very low chance of producing white paint instead of Red or Blue. For most players, Leppa berries are available at the start of the game, but Chesto are harder to get. They are found as seeds that spawn on the east side of the Withered Wasteland, near the Bleak Beach Lighthouse, or very rarely on Dream Islands.

Black paint is a very low chance drop from crushing Aspear or Pecha Berries. Both of these Berry types are also obtained as seeds in the world, with Pecha typically making Pink paint and Aspear making Yellow.

Paint in PC Shop

On rare occasions, players may also purchase bowls of Black and White Paint from the PC Shop, but they aren’t always available, making it an unreliable source for the colors. When they are available, players can purchase a stack of 10 for 100 Coins.

Because White Paint is so hard to get, players will want to hold onto any they get and use it sparingly on important projects. At this time, there is no way to guarantee a White Paint drop from a crushed Berry. However, to help with obtaining it, players can ask Pokémon with the “Crush” specialty to make paint from stacks of Berries by placing them in the Community Bin. This can passively produce White Paint via automation.

With White Paint on hand, Pokopia players will be able to brighten up rooms and add some special touches to favorite furniture items. While it takes some work to get, having a full color palette makes creating the perfect town a lovely and relaxing adventure.
