UK-based digital product consultancy hedgehog lab has appointed a new CEO as it looks to forge ahead with growth plans. Malcolm Seagrave takes on the role having first joined the firm 18 months ago.
Founded in 2007, hedgehog lab is a Newcastle-based technology consultancy, with additional UK presences in Leeds, Edinburgh, and York. With 120 people across its offices, the firm helps clients to strategise and execute digital strategies, as well as conduct user research and interface design.
In 2023, hedgehog lab secured significant investment from BGF, the UK and Ireland’s most active growth capital investor, to drive international expansion. It now has operations in Edinburgh – recently acquiring innovation consultancy Label Sessions in the Scottish capital – as well as engineering support teams in Romania and Bulgaria, with Manchester and Glasgow in its sights.
Seagrave takes on the role with a strong track record of scaling digital businesses in this way. He previously led BJSS from 140 to 1,400 people before its sale to CGI, having earlier helped AND Digital grow from 170 to 1,500 by heading up its Northern function. He also formerly held innovation roles at Vodafone and Morrisons.
Seagrave initially arrived at hedgehog lab 18 months ago, as managing director for the firm’s UK operations. Now, he succeeds co-founder and previous CEO Sarat Pediredla, who announced he was stepping down at the end of 2025, as part of a phased succession plan that would allow him to explore other projects.
He commented, “I’m hugely excited to be taking on the CEO role at hedgehog lab. I’ve scaled digital consultancies before, but this is genuinely unique – the company has built an impeccable culture, a great team, and the integrated offering is a real differentiator. We have all the foundations in place to take this business to another level and now it’s about executing our strategy as a tech company that puts people first.

The leadership change comes after a strong year for hedgehog lab, with turnover rising 30% this year and growth accelerating in the second half of 2025. The consultancy plans to reach £50 million, creating hundreds of new jobs in the North of England and Scotland in the process. Meanwhile, in February, hedgehog lab announced it had achieved B Corp accreditation, and is committing a percentage of its revenue to impact initiatives through volunteering, pro-bono and discounted work.
