ICMR awards 4 research project grants worth 90L to RGU faculty

Guwahati: The Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, has awarded four research project grants worth Rs 90 lakh to faculty members of The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), strengthening advanced medical and translational research at the institution.

The recipients are Sudarshana Borah, associate professor of the department of pharmacy; Dharmeswar Barhoi, assistant professor of the department of zoology; Anirban Banik, assistant professor of the department of zoology; and Priyanka Bhattacharyya, Royal School of Biosciences.

Borah’s project, “Tradition to Therapeutics: Kali Haldi-Based Antibacterial Ointment from Northeast India,” focuses on scientifically validating the traditional medicinal and cosmeceutical uses of Kali Haldi in the northeast.

Barhoi is leading a project, titled, “Exploring the Potential of Moringa oleifera Extract in Restoration of Smokeless Tobacco-Induced Epigenetic Alterations in Swiss Albino Mice.”

Banik’s project will study the cardioprotective effects of DMPO, a potent free radical scavenger.

Bhattacharyya will undertake an innovative study on extracting dietary fibre from the banana pseudostem of Assam’s native Bhim Kol variety to explore its anti-diabetic potential in clinical models.
