Embridge Consulting to aid University of Liverpool cloud transformation

University of Liverpool is looking to upgrade its finance system to the cloud-based Unit4 ERPx solution. Embridge Consulting has been appointed to support the delivery of the institution’s finance system transformation programme.

Unit4 ERPx is a cloud-native, microservices-based ERP solution, with key features including AI-driven automation for invoicing, multicurrency support, and real-time reporting. Designed for service-centric organisations, integrating finance, HR, and project management, the system is attractive to a higher education sector under pressure to find efficiency savings across entire organisations.

Originally established in 1881, the University of Liverpool is currently ranked in the top 25 universities in the UK, according to the 2026 Complete University Guide. As it looks to consolidate that position, it is set to be the first Russell Group university to implement Unit4 ERPx, meaning staff and students alike will be able to take advantage of emerging digital technologies, improved user experience, and increased automation.

Central to those efforts will be transformation consultancy, Embridge Consulting, which has been appointed by the University of Liverpool to support the delivery of its finance system transformation programme. The programme – set to complete in autumn 2027 – will enable the university to upgrade its finance system to ERPx, something which impacts all aspects of the institution’s operations.

Nicola Davies, Chief Financial Officer at the University of Liverpool, explained, “Through the Finance System Transformation Programme we want to upgrade our finance system and secure the technical and infrastructure benefits associated with moving to the cloud alongside introducing more streamlined and standardised end-to-end finance processes. We commissioned Embridge to be our systems integrations partner for the duration of the programme based on their track record of successfully delivering complex change initiatives plus their knowledge of Unit4 ERPx.”

Such transformations often fail – thanks in part to a failure to take into account cultural differences at an organisation. But according to a release from the firms, a core part of the service from Embridge will be an emotionally intelligent ‘elastic’ approach to change – designed to help business transformation adapt, stick and scale. Embridge will now work closely with the university to deliver its Finance System Transformation Programme, supporting its move to Unit4 ERPx – a next-generation cloud ERP solution.
