Shillong, Apr 22: Balmanduri FC returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, thrashing Attong Matgrik FC 7-1 in a one-sided Group G clash of the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL 5) in Williamnagar on Wednesday.
After losing their opening match earlier this week, the North Garo Hills side produced a dominant display, taking control early and never letting up. Four first-half goals set the tone, with Goodnear Marak (21’), Jurisbirth Marak (30’), Ganapati Rabha (41’) and captain Chichang M Momin (45’) putting Balmanduri firmly in command.
The momentum continued after the break as substitutes Nilaybhumi Rabha (70’) and Dipunjay Rabha (75’) added to the tally, while Jurisbirth completed his brace with another goal in the 81st minute to make it 7-0.
Attong Matgrik managed a late consolation through Sunil M Marak in the 85th minute but it did little to alter the outcome. That was the first goal for Attong Matgrik this season; they had lost their previous two matches without scoring and remain bottom of the group. The South Garo Hills side remains at the bottom of the group, having now lost three consecutive matches.
Wednesday’s fixture was the only match of the day, with other groups on a short break. Group G, which features five teams, has a tighter schedule with more frequent matches.
The action in the group will continue on Thursday, when A’chik SCO Rongjeng take on Janepih YSCA in Williamnagar at 3 pm.
