Top Hat Studios and developer Kyle Thompson have released the first public demo for Well Dweller on Steam. The demo was announced during the Top Hat Studios Presents: Spring Showcase 2026 and offers players their first hands-on look at the dark fairy-tale Metroidvania.
The full version of Well Dweller is set to launch in 2026 for PC and Nintendo Switch.
A Dark Fairy Tale Metroidvania from Kyle Thompson
Well Dweller comes from Kyle Thompson, the creator of Crypt Custodian and Islets. The game follows Glimmer, a tiny bird armed with a matchstick, as he sets out to stop a wicked queen and save his family before they become part of her royal gown.
The game takes players through a whimsical but grim kingdom filled with strange characters, dangerous creatures, secrets, and new abilities that expand the world over time.
What’s Included in the Demo
The Steam demo includes Well Dweller’s full opening sequence, along with a selection of major environments and boss encounters. According to Top Hat Studios, the demo is designed to show the early part of the game before the world opens up and gives players more freedom to explore.
