SHILLONG, MAY 15: Homegrown ice-cream brand ‘Taste of Shillong’ launched its first retail outlet on Friday at Dreamland Arcade, Police Bazaar.
The inauguration began with a welcome address by Luziana Wahlang, followed by the ribbon cutting by Saloni Verma, Executive Director, Meghalaya Basin Management Agency.
Sharing her journey, founder Sushmi Mazumdar said the idea was born out of supply gaps at her earlier ice-cream retail shop.
At the core of her entrepreneurship journey, she had a retail shop selling ice-creams but due to the lack of supply and increase in demand, she could not match the customer’s needs. This experience sparked an idea to start producing ice-cream of their own using kitchen gadgets found at home.
Upon this business idea she received positive feedback and The Taste of Shillong was born.
Mazumdar, in her address, gave “a self-introspection of her journey with the support from other fellow Entrepreneurs – The Fabulous family Store,” and thanked the PRIME Team for assisting in her entrepreneurial journey.
Outlining the brand’s roadmap, she said, “Their mission is to open outlets in each and every district of Meghalaya and specially the tourist spots. And their vision is to bring into focus the innovative flavours to the world through our ice-cream which is found exclusively in Meghalaya.”
In her speech as chief guest, Saloni Verma congratulated the brand on the launch. She recalled her first experience of the Bee Mee icecream at the local events and pop-up stores” and thanked “the PRIME team for the constant support and mentorship.
Through PRIME Meghalaya, Taste of Shillong received mentorship, exposure opportunities, incubation support and guidance that helped strengthen its entrepreneurial journey.
PRIME Meghalaya continues to support aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs across the state through incubation programmes, market linkages, training, funding support, networking opportunities and capacity building initiatives, while fostering a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem in Meghalaya.
