Shillong, May 25: More than 2000 additional transformers will be installed across the state to make power supply more reliable and address persistent low-voltage complaints, Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Power Sanjay Goyal said Monday.
“We are putting in the entire state more than 2000 additional transformers, so that the supply is more reliable, it is more robust, as well as in many areas we have in the past have seen that the voltage issues are there,” Goyal said.
He added that the installations are part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at resolving voltage complaints.
“There are complaints of low voltage, so we are trying to resolve all of that and for that to set up these infrastructures, scheduled shutdowns are taken and mostly during day time so that we can complete this work.”
Goyal said the upgradation work includes multiple activities.
“We are taking up various activities in terms of upgradation of the infrastructures and we are taking all the localities into confidence when we are doing it, whether it is about the replacement of the wires, whether it is about adding new lines, whether it is about having additional transformers.”
On the current power situation, he noted, “The power scenario is normal as of now as per the availability of power. Since monsoon is just around the corner, I hope that availability in terms of power will be better and as of now, there is no shortage of the power as far as our state is concerned.”
