Granblue Fantasy: Relink Endless Ragnarok is a huge expansion for the popular anime-inspired action RPG that originally released in 2024. It currently holds a 92% all-time positive rating on Steam, and we ourselves gave it an 8.5 in our review, so it’s safe to say that it’s a pretty good game.
With Endless Ragnarok swiftly approaching, you might be wondering what to expect with the coming expansion on July 9th and whether you should keep it on your radar. So, with all that being said—is Granblue Fantasy: Relink Endless Ragnarok worth playing?
Granblue Fantasy: Relink Combat Mechanics
Many people compare Granblue Fantasy: Relink to a mixture of Monster Hunter and something akin to Final Fantasy. However, you don’t just play as one character here. You can play as a mixture of over 20 unique Skyfarers. The game has a big focus on traveling through the clouds, hence the name ‘Skyfarers’. Each one of these characters feels completely distinct and has their own playstyle, so it would be hard for you not to find at least one character that feels like home.
One of the major mechanics in combat is that striking enemies fills a limit gauge, allowing you to pull off powerful team combos once it’s filled up. You can play solo with three AI teammates, or you cn jump into online co-op with three other players. A lot of players out there like the choice of being able to play by themselves and this game definitely has that.
New Content in Granblue Fantasy Relink: Endless Ragnarok
One of the first major additions to Granblue Fantasy Relink is that there is more to the story, and players must take on a new threat—Ragnalia. Players will also encounter Beezlebub, who is new to Relink, but is a fan-favorite antagonist in the Granblue franchise. This character is one of the most famous among players, so fans of the game, the anime, or both are going to be very hyped about this.
Master Traits
Another new addition is Master Traits. These allow you to push your character to higher levels than they were able to achieve in the base game. This means you can get even more out of your favorite characters in terms of combat performance, and there is more grind to be had.
There is new loot in the game as well, but the main difference that is going to impact your characters is the ability to take them to higher levels of progression.
New Playable Characters
Even if you have a favorite character from the base game, what new expansion would be complete without new playable characters? Four new characters have been confirmed for the roster: Beatrix, Eustace, Maglielle, and Gallanza.
Summons
One of the biggest mechanical changes coming with the expansion is that Lyria can now channel summons that you can directly control and play as. This allows for some gameplay experiences not previously had in the base game. This is a new feature, and being able to play as summons and use their attacks in combat keeps things new and fresh.
The Conflux, New Solo Mode
There’s also a brand new solo mode being added to the game called the Conflux. We don’t know a great deal about this mode yet, but it’s said to add roguelike elements where players can gain enigmatic powers as they progress further into it. These powers appear to be somewhat randomized, along with the enemies and challenges that you’ll face inside.
Chaos Tier Quests
There’s also new, more challenging co-op bosses that require ‘chaos tier’ gear in order to defeat, which we assume players will have to farm from end-game bosses in Endless Ragnarok. Chaos gear is something that you’ll have to equip to take down these powerful bosses. Even if you already have good gear on your characters, you’ll still have to tier up in order to survive! This is optional, but if you’re looking for more of a challenge, the chaos tier quests provide it.
Full Crossplay Support
Lastly, Granblue Fantasy: Relink will have full cross-play support when Endless Ragnarok hits on July 9th. There is currently some cross-play support between PlayStation 4 and 5, but the expansion will provide full support. That means you can play on any available platform and still engage with your friends and other players. At the moment, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is only available on PC and PlayStation. When Endless Ragnarok comes out on July 9th, however, it will also release on the Switch 2.
There are plenty more changes coming with Endless Ragnarok, as well, but these are your main additions. And remember, you don’t need to buy the full version of the same again if you already own Granblue Fantasy: Relink. You can simply purchase the expansion to upgrade to Endless Ragnarok.
Beginner Tips
So we’ve already got you geared up and excited for the release of Endless Ragnarok, but we want to leave you with some beginner tips in case July is when you decide to jump in. Even if you’re playing now, these will help get you off to a better start.
Complete the Main Story First
To kick things off, we recommend completing the main story first. You unlock more features by doing so and will save yourself a lot of time by getting access to those first. You also get better rewards from side quests if you complete them after the main campaign. So, if there is any tip you take away from this, make sure it’s this one. Complete the main campaign before tackling the side quests!
Form a Balanced Party
Secondly, it’s important to create a balanced party. Adding two DPS and two support characters is a good starting point. Rackam and Eugen are good party candidates, as are Gran and Katalina from your starting group. If you’re wondering which characters to unlock first, Cagliostro is excellent, mainly because of her revive skill. This is a very important skill to have, especially in the end game.
Replace Katalina if you take Cagliostro so you can retain the balance of your team and keep it well-rounded. Lancelot is a solid DPS pick if you’d rather have more of an emphasis on that, and you can replace one of the other two DPS characters with them. But don’t worry if you can’t choose! You can get both characters easily by progressing through the main story.
Upgrade Your Weapons
Another essential tip is to upgrade your weapons as you progress through the main story. Making yourself stronger will help you get through the campaign, especially if you’re skipping the side quests and not farming extra materials. Additionally, upgrading your weapons will simultaneously unlock nodes in your weapon tree. There is a benefit to doing this even if you find yourself replacing the weapon later on.
Finalize Your First Four Characters
Lastly, we recommend finalizing your first four characters before you end the main story. Focus on upgrading them, their equipment, and their masteries so you can tackle the end game and farm resources quickly. That way, you can upgrade other characters that you might want later. If you spread your resources over all your characters, you won’t be equipped to farm effectively in the end game, and you’ll have to grind for a bit to be able to do so.
One important note to remember is that unlocking characters puts them at the level you’re currently at. So, it’s better if you reach max level before unlocking most of the characters. That way, they will automatically be at max level, and you can skip the process of grinding up their levels and mastery points.
