If you simply couldn’t wait for more information on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, we’ve got good news! There’s already more to report about the game’s third expansion, and it looks absolutely incredible.
The Songs of the Past expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was supposed to be announced alongside their Q1 2026 financial report until an untimely faux pas led to an early announcement.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Songs of the Past Expansion Announced for 2027
CD Projekt Red has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a brand-new 2027 expansion for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Instead of the leak being found in the depths of Reddit or 4chan as they usually are, The Witcher 3’s third expansion was accidentally published on their own launcher. That’s pretty hard to ignore, so the news was eventually confirmed about a day early via X (formerly known as Twitter.)
But CD Projekt Red didn’t reveal everything about the project on X. They saved lots of juicy info for their Q1 2026 financial report, and the future is looking very bright for fans of The Witcher.
Everything New We Know About The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past
The official official announcement for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past can be viewed on YouTube and comes from Piotr Nielubowicz himself, as though nothing ever happened. This is certainly how the news was meant to be delivered, and it even contains extra info, so there was still something to look forward to after all!
The most exciting piece of news regarding the Songs of the Past expansion came in the Q&A portion of the video. Nowakowski stressed that this is indeed an expansion, not a DLC, stating the following: “I cannot stop myself. It’s not a DLC; it’s an expansion.” If you’re wondering what the difference is, he went on to explain that “DLCs are the smaller ones, which we typically give for free. Expansions are the bigger, juicier ones.”
In other words, there’s going to be a lot to look forward to in Songs of the Past. The scope of Songs of the Past was even compared to another The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion, Blood and Wine, which offers over 30 hours of adventure. That’s almost like a whole new game. CD Projekt Red is not playing around with Songs of the Past, labeling it a “proper big expansion.”
It appears that Songs of Past is not all we have to look forward to, either, as this nugget was revealed in the Q&A, as well: “We obviously have some other content currently at an advanced production phase as well. And while it’s obviously not on the same scale as the major expansion, we will plan to release it this year.”
That’s all we get to hear about the other mysterious Witcher 3 content, but who doesn’t love a good mystery? There was a decent amount of information revealed about Songs of the Past in the Q1 financial update, so we probably won’t hear anything else about it for a while.
CD Projekt Red is going to give fans a glimpse of the expansion at Gamescom in August, however, so if you’re planning on heading there, you can get a peek for yourself! If not, hang in there. More information is soon to come.
