Anthropic will provide the European Commission access to its advanced AI model called Mythos after months of discussions over cybersecurity concerns. European officials said they welcomed the agreement and want to better understand the possible risks linked to the technology.
Mythos was first introduced earlier this year through Anthropic’s cybersecurity project and quickly drew attention because of its ability to uncover hidden software weaknesses. Experts warned that while the model could improve security, it could also be dangerous if used by cybercriminals or hostile groups.
European officials said they have been working closely with Anthropic and other AI companies as more powerful systems enter the market. The European Union had already gained access to a cyber focused model from OpenAI earlier this year and is now increasing cooperation with US technology firms on AI safety.
The deal also highlights growing global competition around artificial intelligence. Reports said the US government has been cautious about sharing advanced AI systems with foreign governments as it tries to maintain leadership in the fast growing industry.
