Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, on Tuesday, accused the ruling Congress in Telangana of “looting” the State and alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was “siphoning off hundreds of crores” to the party high command. “Is this why he became Chief Minister, instead of focusing on implementing the six guarantees promised to the people before the elections?” he asked.

Mr. Reddy claimed that Telangana, once a revenue-surplus State, was being pushed towards bankruptcy due to the policies of both the BRS and the Congress.

Speaking at the Telangana Formation Day celebrations organised by the BJP in New Delhi, he said retired employees were facing hardship due to delays in receiving basic benefits. He also alleged that the present government was no different from the previous K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led regime, with “corruption and malfeasance” continuing unchecked and turning the administration into a “hub for real estate dealings”.

Mr. Reddy further accused the Congress of having historically opposed the Telangana movement. “The people of Telangana achieved statehood through sheer determination, not due to the Congress party’s benevolence,” he said, adding that the party had “no moral standing” to claim credit for the formation of the State. Telangana’s development in line with people’s aspirations could only be realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he claimed.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin called upon party workers in Telangana to unite and fight against what he termed as “corrupt governance”. Alleging that “some individuals have turned Telangana into an ATM for the Congress party,” he said the BJP was committed to rebuilding Telangana in line with the aspirations of those who fought for its creation.

Mr. Nabin reiterated the party’s long-standing support for smaller States, arguing that they enable more effective governance and development. He paid tribute to those who participated in the Telangana movement, noting that their vision was yet to be fully realised.

In the past 12 years, funds had been disbursed to 3.1 million farmers under PM-Kisan, over 7.5 million beneficiaries had received Mudra loans, and 12.7 million Jan Dhan accounts had been opened in Telangana, alongside the rollout of Ayushman Bharat cards along with several railway and road infrastructure projects, he added.

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said TG was formed through a democratic and parliamentary process, recalling the role of leaders such as Sushma Swaraj. He emphasised the need for both Telugu States to move forward with “healthy competition” and mutual cooperation.
